As of this review, there are 11 different Laminators offered by Fellowes. Talk about confusing. Even so, it's nice to have a range of options and prices to choose from. My opinion is that you shouldn't pay for features you don't need. If you are laminating on a daily or weekly basis, consider some of the higher end models, such as the Fellowes Voyager 125 Laminator (5218601). If you are using it for the occasional lamination project and don't need super thick pouches, then take a look at the Callisto 95, which is in the middle of the pack.It came with 10 sheets of 3 Mils pouches. As of right now, you can get a replacement pack of a 100 on Amazon for $23.88 ( Fellowes 3 Mil 9 x... This is a very stylish laminator. The top is a brushed silver-looking (sort of like a muted stainless steel effect) with a dark grey face & underside. It's very modern & matches nearly anything. The four buttons on top are molded into the design, making them practically unbreakable/waterproof. One button is the on/off switch, another is the "backwards button" and the other two are to select the thickness of your laminate from three options:3,4 & 5mil. You plug it in, turn it on, choose thickness of laminator paper you're using (comes with 10 pack of 3 mil. laminate) and just run it through with a reasonably steady hand. *Every 20 laminations, the manufacturer suggests that you run a "cleaning sheet" through it once. They provide the sheet and include this statement on it: "You may also use any other sheet of uncoated paper of a similar thickness." The thickness is basically light card stock, similar to postcards inserted in-between magazines... I've been using a Royal Sovereign laminator for the last 20 years and while it's worked ok I was happy to replace it. The RS used to get fairly hot and it took forever (well 15 minutes or so) to heat up enough to laminate. The Fellowes is a nice replacement and does a good job. All of the stock I tested rolled through very smoothly and came through with high quality, no air pockets or curled edges. The reason the Callisto 95 gets 4 stars is twofold. First, it's loud. The motor has a medium high pitched whine that's fairly loud. It would definitely be annoying in an office setting. Second, it still takes 5-6 minutes to reach laminating heat. This is for the lowest setting, 3 mil, which was the only laminating stock I had on hand. The other settings were Cold, 4 mil, and 5 mil thickness. One other thing that bothers me is that the power button on the front of the machine puts it into On or Standby, but not Off. I assume this would shorten the heating time if you were to use it off and... Read more |
